Cooking Tips :

The Best Way To Cook Gourmet Food

It's long been said that the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. But men aren't the only ones who love a great meal. Cooking is not just a technical skill; it's a life activity that you use every day. Here are a few tips to enhance your cooking skills and make you even better at it.

Consider recipes to be guidelines rather than rules. Feel free to branch out and switch up the spices or add an extra ingredient. Before long you will be compiling your own personal collection of altered recipes that are better than the original thing. Not only will you will also be able to impress your friends with unique dishes, but you will become a better cook as you experiment with changing recipes.

You can save a lot of money by buying potatoes for your favorite dishes in larger quantities. Make sure you store them in a cool dark place (preferably in a root cellar). Place them in a crate loosely and keep the storage temperature between 45 and 50 degrees F. Avoid storing them in the refrigerator as they become sweet.

One of the things that you can do if you are cooking cauliflower is to add milk, which will help to brighten your vegetable. This will add to the aesthetic appeal of your food and will also maintain the freshness until you decide to serve it to your friends or family.

When you are cooking for your family, try not to stick to one style. If you cook the same meal over and over, it can get boring and your family will become jaded with the dishes that you make. Change things up every night so that you can introduce new meals and cuisines to your family.

It is important to know that just because a recipe does not call for a certain spice does not mean you cannot add it. For instance, you may feel that garlic would make the dish taste better, which may be true. So do not be scared, go ahead and add it.

To saute vegetables, use chicken broth in place of oil or butter. The vegetables will take on the broth flavor, and reduce the oil that is used when sauteing. This is a great and delicious way to cook vegetables.

Here is a fresh perspective on pumpkins. First, cut your pumpkin in half from top-down. Place them upside down on different baking sheets. Sprinkle some water on the sheets and bake the pumpkin for about an hour at 350 degrees.

Keep tabs on the amount of cooking oil you use. Refrain from unmeasured pours from a bottle, focusing instead on lowering the fat content by awareness. By carefully doling out the oil, you will know the true amount of fat you getting when you cook.

If you are making a dish where you will need thin strips of meat (fajitas, Chinese) freeze your meet for about 20 minutes before cutting. This will allow you to slice the meat very thinly with ease. You may think this sounds a little strange, but it will definitely do the trick.

After eating turkey, such as for Thanksgiving, never throw away leftovers. Instead, cut it into slices, store it in an airtight container, and place it directly in the freezer. The turkey stays fresh for a few weeks this way and can be used to make sandwiches or can be put into a salad.

When cooking burgers, no matter what the type of burger, it is important to only flip it one time in order to retain all of the juices. If you don't do this your burger will most likely end up dry and will resemble a hockey puck! Don't let that happen to your burgers.

Instead of chopping them on a cutting board, a better way to cut herbs is to hold them in a bunch and cut them with sharp scissors. This works especially well for dill and parsley. This is preferable to chopping the herbs because they will be less moisture laden, making them lighter and fluffier.

You can make a quick and inexpensive meal out of some leftovers by adding pasta and rice to vegetables, meat or salad fixings. They cook quickly and are cheap, so use them to stretch the contents of your refrigerator. Toss in a few sauteed peppers or onions to make an even, fuller meal.

How to 'un-seize' melted chocolate. If the chocolate you are melting suddenly gets lumpy or grainy, this means it has 'seized', and it will ruin a recipe. Remove the pan and add 1/2 to 1 tsp of shortening or cooking oil (not butter or margarine). Stir until the mixture becomes smooth again. To prevent seizing, make sure the pan is completely dry before trying to melt chocolate.

A great, home-cooked meal is the kind of thing all of us remember. Using these tips to improve your cooking is the same as an athlete who keeps training--the more you do it, the better you get. learn as much as you can about cooking. The more tips you have, the better your meals will taste.
